Lupe Acevedo Martinez 79, of Stockton passed away unexpectedly while vacationing in Mexico.  She was born on May 5, 1936 in Colima, Mexico.  She was the beloved wife of the late Paul Martinez and mother to Sandra Sanchez (Steve), Ed Martinez (Tammy), Shelia McDonald, and Stan Martinez (Nancy). She was the grandmother to 10 and Great grandmother to 7.

She retired from Lincoln Unified School District and was a member of Presentation Church. She loved to travel, garden, cook, sew, and spend time with family and friends.

You may be gone from our sight but you are never gone from our hearts.

A Visitation will be held Thursday May 5, 2016   12-8:00 pm @ Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home (831 Industrial Way, Lodi, CA 95240)

Arila Artina Dunlap

The world has lost a beautiful shining star and our world will never be the same without her.Dunlap1Arila Artina Dunlap passed away on April 12, 2016. She was born in North Dakota to Jacob and Ella Horst, where she was raised on a wheat farm and eventually went to college in Dickenson North Dakota. As a young woman she taught school in several one-room country schoolhouses. Life was hard working in the harsh winters of North Dakota in the middle of nowhere. She was her sons first grade school teacher and her daughters kindergarten teacher. Even though they didn't have kindergarten her daughter went to school with her at the age of four. After the passing of her husband Oscar Enzi in 1957, she moved to Lodi California where she struggled to provide for herself and her children.

She eventually met and married the love of her life Tommy Dunlap. He was a gift from heaven for her and her children who also loved him with all their heart and soul. They were as happy together as two people could ever be and as they both deserved. They were married for 49 wonderful years until his passing in 2007. We know they are now together again.

Everyone that knew her was touched by her warm and caring heart and smile.

Arila is survived by her two children Balano Enzi (Lesli) and Donita Grose (Ron) and stepdaughters: Nancy and Sue Dunlap. Grandchildren: Joey Grose (Nicole), Daniel Enzi (Holly), April Enzi MacDonal (Andy), Melisa Roberts (Bob), Lucas Baumbach (Elysse). Five great-granddaughters: Nicole Grose, Victoria Grose, Autumn and Katelynn Hoppe, and Rheanna Enzi. Her close and beloved friends Barbara Biscaborn, Ricky and Kathy Teel, Jacque Serrano and long time friend and neighbor Duncan.

She enjoyed making items for her boutique and just making things for people. Working in her yard and nurturing her flowers was her true joy. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and enjoyed socializing with her friends. She loved life and never met anyone she didn't enjoy or touch in a positive way.

Funeral services will take place at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 701 So. Pleasant Ave. Lodi, CA

VISITATION

Visitation will be held from 11:00 am – 8:00 pm on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home 831 Industrial Way, Lodi, CA.

 

Elsie Marie Adamski

Elsie Marie Adamski passed away April 9, 2016 in Lodi at the age of 85. Elsie was born in Stockton on September 19, 1930 to Everett and G. Marie Smith. She was a long time resident of Lodi. She enjoyed playing with her grandchildren, gardening and watching baseball with her husband.  She was always so proud of all of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  They brought her great happiness.

She is survived by her husband Gerard E. Adamski of Lodi; children: Steven Michael Henderson of Los Gatos, Jeffrey Alan Henderson (wife Karen Marie) of Rio Vista; former daughter in law Mary Henderson Of Idaho; stepchildren Thomas Anthony Adamski and Andrea (Adamski) Bender; grandchildren: Amanda Michelle Boyle, Jennifer Lynn Henderson, Jeremy Alan Henderson, and Jason Charles Anthony Henderson; great-grandchildren: Cody Michael, Braydan Edward, Marlys Rose, Hannah Marie, and Zakary Ryan.  Her parents, brother George Smith and her former spouse Donald Dean Henderson precede her in death.

SERVICES

Private services were held at Cherokee Memorial Park.  Memorial contributions can be made to Salvation Army.

 

Frances Rose

Frances Rose05/21/1922 – 04/08/2016 of Acampo Frances Rose, 93, of Acampo, passed away April 8, 2016. Born May 21, 1922 in Oakland, California, Frances was a homemaker for many years, and dearly loved by her family and friends. Frances will be missed by her children, Carol Carter of Acampo, and Charles R. Lopes of the East Coast. She also leaves behind her 6 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.

SERVICES

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 1pm at Evergreen Chapel at Cherokee Memorial Park, Hwy 99 and Harney Lane in Lodi, with interment immediately following.

Wilbert Ruben Handel

Wilbert (Bert) Ruben Handel passed away quietly on April 5 2016, looking forward to being reunited with his Sunshine, Emma.Handel Mr. Handel was born July 28, 1921 in Menno, Hutchinson County, South Dakota to John F. Handel and Emelia Neuharth Handel. His family farmed wheat, corn and oats south of Menno, South Dakota. The family moved to Lodi in 1935 after the death of his father. He graduated from Lodi Union High School in 1939 and later took Business courses at Forkners’ Business College in Stockton. In 1941 he was hired by the federal government to work at the Port of Stockton as a warehouse supervisor. He helped train women to operate forklifts when women were hired to replace men that had gone into the service. During that time German POW’s were housed in a stockade at the Port and used to help with warehouse duties. Bert was called upon to act as a German interpreter. Over the years, he worked for Railway Express Co., Sharpe Army Depot, Cloverleaf Milk Co. and Daisy Bread Co. On June 20, 1942, Wilbert married Emma Christina Brenner at the Lodi Baptist Church. The couple met when Miss Brenner's aunt suggested she meet the boy next door who was sitting on his front veranda playing the guitar. In 1945, Bert and Emma moved to Stockton. In 1961, Bert was hired as a delivery driver for the owners of Quality Cleaners. He and Emma eventually became the owners and added the Country Club Cleaners. They retired in 1993.

Bert is remembered for his love of music. During his lifetime, he played accordion, guitar and piano. His family remembers jam sessions held at the house with their father’s friends. He had a sense of humor and was very much a people person. While working as a delivery driver, he tried to always leave his customers with a smile on their face.

Bert Handel has been a member of Mayfair Christian Church for over 20 years where he served as an elder, deacon and trustee. He sang in the church choir and he and his wife often sang duets. He was previously a member of Eastside Presbyterian Church for over 36 years where he served as an elder and deacon. He and his wife were responsible for a Junior Church for many years. Mr. Handel and his wife were members of the Band of Friends, a local senior citizens band that entertained at hospitals and retirement communities. They were known for their favorite duet, You Are My Sunshine.

Mr. Handel is survived by daughters Maureen (Robert) Carr of Aptos, CA and Karen (Steve) Tucker of Coquille, OR; sons Stephen (Romelia) Handel of Stockton, CA and Ronald (Katie) Handel of Valley Springs, CA; his grandchildren Michelle Carr (Logan Frahm) of Capitola, CA, Julie (Bejay Strout) Carr of Aptos, CA, Tricia (James) Fosdick of Soulsbyville, CA, Jennifer (Paul) Yankey of Merced, CA, Stephen (Andrea) Handel II of Sacramento, CA, Krista (Rick) Maxwell of Merced, CA; Ronald (Gina) Handel, Jr. of Stockton, CA and Amy (Brad) Sieffert of Stockton, CA, as well as 18 great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Emma Christina Handel; sisters Ella Wittmeier, Adillia List, Anna DeJong, Gertrude Babitzke and brother Ewald Handel.

Connie Rae Schweigerdt

Connie Rae (Babitzke) Schweigerdt went home to her Lord on April 4, 2016, following a bicycle accident. Obituary PicHer family was at her side at the time of her passing.

Connie was born and raised in Lodi, and was 70 years young at the time of her death. She met her future husband, Bruce, through their church youth group, and they attended Lodi High School together. They were married in their senior year while attending Sacramento State University. Following graduation, Connie and Bruce established their first home together in Lodi. They were married for 49 years.

Connie was an English major, yet words will never describe her. She began a career as a social worker for San Joaquin County, however when she and Bruce began their family, she chose to remain at home to raise their children. Connie is survived by her husband and their four children: Stephen and wife Bronwyn, Shelly and husband Nick, Katy and companion Edouard Roberge, Timothy and wife Kalina, and her granddaughter, Edie Laurel Schweigerdt, as well as her mother-in-law, Lena Schweigerdt. She is also survived by her younger brother, Bill Babitzke and wife Kathy, niece Sarah (Babitzke) Lee and husband David, and nephew Kelly.In their retirement years, Connie and Bruce enjoyed traveling in their RV. She always loved to camp, hike, and ride her bike. She was incredibly proud of hiking the Grand Canyon multiple times and visiting 49 of the States. Connie was a fire cracker! She was full of energy, and was always making new recycled crafts, tending her garden, loving on animals, or sending encouraging notes and cards. Her life was abundant and loud with laughter. She could always make people laugh without even trying. She loved to chat and meet people and dogs on her bike rides. She never ran out of stories to share and there was not a dog in the neighborhood that she wouldn’t try to meet. She would spend as much time outside as she could. She rode her bike every day, and made many friends along the way. To say she was unique is an understatement. She was one of a kind. The most beautiful, loving person you could find. If you found her, you were lucky.

Her children describe her as a great mom who would do everything she could for them. She was a selfless soul who gave everything she had to her husband, family, and friends. She passed on to them how to love, how to be strong, how to be kind, and instilled in them her spirit of adventure. Her husband and children treasured her, and will cherish all of the memories she has given them.

She was exposed to country music in 2003, and the stories told by the songs spoke to her heart :) Alan Jackson was her favorite, and she had fond memories of enjoying a Rascal Flatts concert with her daughters. Connie especially loved animals, birds, reptiles, and most rodents and insects. She would want to save as many animals as she possibly could. Tim Dale Sivils

Timothy “Tim” Dale Sivils passed away at his home in Stockton on April 3, 2016 at the age of 59. He was Sivilsborn on August 4, 1956 to Ted and Melvina Sivils in Arizona. He has lived the past 43 years in Stockton and worked for over 36 years a Teamster (Local 439), most recently working with Safeway before retiring in 2013. Tim was a HAM radio operator (K6TRK). He is survived by his wife Rita Sivils; mother Melvina Sivils; sons: Justin and David Sivils; stepsons: David, Patrick, Clarence and Kevin Hammick; 3 granddaughters; 2 grandsons; a brother Bill Sivils, 2 stepsisters and numerous other relatives. Visitation will be held from 2-8 pm on Thursday April 14, 2016 at Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home 831 Industrial Way, Lodi. James Ernest Heckenlaible

Jim was a lot of things to a lot of people and was loved by many. He will be missed. Jim HeckenlaibleJames Ernest Heckenlaible, 62 of Gold River, CA passed away in his sleep the morning of April 3, 2016. Jim was born in Lodi, CA July 2, 1953. He graduated from Lodi High School in 1971. After a few years of driving “Big Rigs” cross-country he decided to settle down, marrying his soulmate Gloria Dinsmore in 1982. Jim made the decision to return to college where he received his Bachelor Degree at Cal State Stanislaus and subsequently became a CPA. He started his accounting career with Ernst and Whinney. In 1992 he was employed by the State of California as a settlement officer, in the legal division, with the Franchise Tax Board. He enjoyed being involved with the family vineyard business as well. Jim loved traveling, especially to tropical destinations where he enjoyed all aspects of the ocean - including diving and sailing. Jim learned piano at a young age which fostered his passion of music. Fun-spirited, friendly, engaging, loyal, sensitive and bit of a rascal could all be used to describe his nature. A surprise to some was his love of cats. He was intrigued with the wildness of them while, at the same time, they are house pets. James was preceded in death by his father Ernest Heckenlaible. He is survived by his wife Gloria of 33 years, of Gold River, CA; mother Julia Heckenlaible of Lodi, brother Dwayne Heckenlaible (Vicki) and niece Ashley Heckenlaible of Lodi, CA; mother-in-law Barbara Buck of San Antonio, TX and brother in law David Dinsmore of Honolulu, HI. Jim is also survived by his rescue cats Elmo and Lenny.
