Barbara Darnell

April 14, 1960 - October 27, 2018

Barbara Darnell, 58, passed away on October 27, 2018 after a lengthy illness. She was born in Lodi to Aaron and Loreta Darnell on April 14, 1960; the youngest of 7 children.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers James, Clifton and Carlton Darnell. She is survived by her brother Ronald Darnell and sisters Rose Clasen and Linda Daniel, as well as many nieces and nephews.

VISITATION:

A visitation will be held on Monday November 5, 2018 from 12:00pm - 1:00pm at the Evergreen Chapel located at Cherokee Memorial Park, located at  Harney Lane and Hwy 99, Lodi, CA 95240.

Maria Benavides

April 12, 1955 - October 26, 2018

Maria Estela (Stella) Benavides, 63, passed away at home on Fri., Oct. 26, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Stella graduated from Sacramento State University earning a BA in Liberal Arts. She worked at Head Start Child Development Counsel for 37 years and the Community Action Partnership of Kern County as the Education Manager / Disabilities for the past three years, where she was responsible for assisting with the overall planning of the comprehensive Infant/Toddler Program. Stella loved her work and the caring staff and families she served. Stella enjoyed celebrating monthly Sibling Days with sisters, brother, nieces and nephews where they would reminisce of olden days and enjoy great meals together.

She was Godmother and Tia to many nieces and nephews and extended her caring reach to her grandnieces and grand-nephews embracing and loving each as her own. Stella will be deeply missed by her surviving sisters Margaret Benavides, Sylvia Garcia (Joe), Yolanda Benavides, brother Salvador Benavides, Jr. (Irma), brother in laws, Anthony Santa Cruz, Ray Medel, and Joe Takhar, nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and grandnieces. Stella is preceded in death by her father, Salvador Benavides, Sr., mother, Maria de Jesus Benavides, sisters Virginia Santa Cruz, Isabel Medel, Linda Benavides Galindo, her nephew, Vincent Michael Maahs, Sr. and grand niece Alexandria Young.


VISITATION AND SERVICE AS FOLLOWS

Viewing will be on Thursday, November 1, 2018 from 1:00pm to 6:00pm with the Rosary at 6:30pm at Vineyard Chapel at Cherokee Memorial Park located at 14165 N. Beckman Road, Lodi, CA  95240. Wesley Harold Schimke - kind, patient, and generous Husband, Father, Grandpa and Great-Grandfather, passed away peacefully at Brookdale Senior Living Center in Lodi,CA on Friday-October 26, 2018 with family at his side. Believing with confidence,in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the Son Of God, Wes awaits the 2nd coming of Jesus, and the great resurrection promised to all who love and trust in God, our Heavenly Father.

Wes was Born at home, on the family farm September 05, 1929 in Harvey, ND. He was the 6th child of Frederick & Katie(Fuller)Schimke. Wes Leaves behind his beloved Wife of 68 years, Lyda Dell(Baumbach) Schimke and 3 daughters, Shelly(Harvey) Zinke of Spokane, WA - Candy(Russ) Breitmaier of Walla Walla, WA and Susan(Reg) Smith of Acampo, CA. Including 7 Grandchildren: Katie(Mark) Christensen of Spokane, WA - Wes(Christine) Zinke of Nipomo, CA - John(Erica) Zinke of Chowchilla and Woodbridge, CA - Jenny(Craig) Heitman of Lodi, CA - Jill(Orson) Maine of Ventura, CA - Greg(Amy) Breitmaier of Bozeman, MT and Alexis(Nick) LaRose of Couer d’ Alene, ID. Also, 15 Great-Grandchildren: Garrett, Claire, and Emma Christensen - Brett & Darren Zinke - Jack, Ty, Wyatt, and Gianna Zinke - Rustyn Heitman - Madeleine and Maximus Maine - Wallace Breitmaier - Grayson and Lillian LaRose. Including many dear nephews, nieces, and friends. Wes was preceded in death by his Parents, Frederick and Katie(Fuller) Schimke, his parent-in-laws, Valentine and Mabel(Johnson) Baumbach, His Brothers - Robert, Gilbert, Jim, and Glen Schimke, also Sisters - Lorene Baker, Ruth Schmidt, and Alpha Connors.

As a young lad, Wes left Harvey, ND with his family, residing a few years in Walla Walla, WA until the family decided to follow many Schimke and Fuller relatives to Lodi, CA. He attended both Lincoln Elementary School & Lodi SDA Elementary School, graduating from Lodi High School in 1948 lettering in 11 out of 12 possible Sports. He continued his education at Delta Jr. College in Stockton, CA. Wes Schimke started his career working for San Joaquin Co. just a few years before starting a long career with CAL-Trans for over 45 years with the engineering/surveyor departments.

Both Wes and Lyda enjoyed many years of travel together around the world, and annual excursions to the Hawaiian Islands. They built together their dream retirement Cabin in Pioneer, CA where many family gatherings were celebrated.

Wes is a member of the Lodi Fairmont SDA Church, having served thru the years as Deacon, Church Board member, Building Commitee, Pathfinder Club. and Lodi Academy Youth activities. He coached and refereed numerous Lodi City League baseball, basketball and volleyball games too. He was a member of the CA Natl.Guard locally during the 1950's with the Artillery Unit and Medic responsibilities.

In Lieu of flowers, in Memoriam, donations may be gifted: ADRA International, Lodi Academy Worthy Student Fund, Maranatha Missions, Veterans’ Assoc., Hospice(Vitas Healthcare) and Salvation Army-Lodi.

SERVICES:

Services will be graveside under the auspices of Cherokee Memorial Park, on November 10, 2018 Saturday afternoon at 1:30pm.

Joyce Covey

September 11th, 1939 - October 25th, 2018

Joyce "Meme" Evelyn Covey succumbed to Alzheimer's in the early morning hours of October 25 at the age of 79. Born in Vancouver, Canada, and raised in Pacifica, California, Joyce eventually became the first graduating student at (what was at the time brand new) Westmore High School in Daly City, CA. She was a resident of Lodi and Lockeford for nearly 40 years.?Joyce married Ron Haren in 1959, with whom she raised four children. In 1971, she was remarried to Vern Covey (father of three) for 26 years until his death in 1998. Joyce became a United States citizen 2000.
She was an avid game player, both board and video. Joyce also enjoyed wood crafts, quilt making, and loved watching movies. She was a member of Emanuel Luther Church in Lodi.
Joyce is survived by children Karen Montoya, Vicki Covey, Ron Haren, Ken Haren and Patty Lotoski and by 22 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Barbara Capitana of San Francisco. She was preceded in death by husband Vern Covey, sons, Mike Covey and Bobby Haren, sister, Marlene Allen, and great-granddaughter, Audrey Keaney.
A celebration of her life will take place at Emanuel Lutheran, 1540 W Lodi Ave, Lodi, CA 95242, at 1:00 on November 16, 2018. A reception will follow. All are welcome.
