Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Jesus was born July 16, 1932 to Leon Barajas and Genoveva Saldana. He passed away in Galt on March 6, 2016 at the age of 83. He is survived by his wife Maria Barajas of Galt; daughter Guadalupe Barajas–Pascual; seven gradchildren; two sisters Beatriz Ledesma and Josefina Ramirez; brothers: Heriberto, Jose, David and Antonio Barajas. He is preceded in death by his parents and by his brothers: Victoriano and Benito Barajas.

Alys Klapstein

Alys Klapstein05/31/1920 – 03/03/2016 of Lodi

Lodi native, Alys Ethlyn Lucas Klapstein, passed Klapsteinaway on March 3, 2016 in Oakland, CA. She was born to parents Rosalyn and Richard Lucas on May 31, 1920. The decision Alys made at 8 years of age to ask Jesus to be her Savior, formed the direction of her life. She and her family were members of Bethel Open Bible Church. Graduating from Lodi High with top honors in 1936 at age 16, she chose to pursue Biblical training at Bible Standard College in Eugene, OR. Her future husband Harvey Klapstein of Lodi, also graduated from the same school. They were married in Lodi in 1940. During their 60-year marriage, they served together in many types of Christian ministry. Alys always cared for others in her roles as a Bible College teacher and Dean of Women, missionary, pastor’s wife, and head of Open Bible’s Women’s Ministries on the West Coast. Alys was also a credentialed minister with Open Bible Standard Churches for 70 plus years.

In her retirement years, she founded two low-vision support groups in Fresno and Lodi, as the result of her life long vision problems. The Lodi chapter, Lodi Low Vision Eye Support, continues today. In recent years she continually built friendships in her retirement community in Oakland. At the top of Alys’ accomplishments was being a mother to her three daughters, and grandmother of 4 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. She always made every family member feel like he or she was her “favorite”. The number of people also touched by Alys’ life, love, and ministry are too numerous to count. She was truly one of God’s saints on earth, and must have had a grand welcome in Heaven!

Alys was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harvey, and brother Richard Lucas. Alys is survived by daughters Sallie Hausler of Modesto, Joyce Hall (Steve) of Dallas, TX, Sharon Morris (Dan) of Oakland, and heart daughter Artemisa Audifrez of Fresno, CA. Grandchildren are Anneliese Hausler-Akpovi (Joseph), Lynnea Wiratunga (Kumar), Aaron Hall, and Alyson Hall Steiner (Justin). Great Grandchildren are Lionel (Jessica), Giscard, Senna, Cica, and Inaya Akpovi, Grace and Hannah Wiratunga, William and Jackson Steiner, and great-great grandchild Leona Akpovi.

James "Jaime" Ordaz, born September 4, 1978, entered into eternal rest on March 1, 2016. Jaime is survived by his parents, Delia & Salvador Ordaz, his daughter Natalia Ordaz, brothers Paul and David, paternal grandparents and grandmother Rose Kline, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and The Wolf Pack. Robert D. Willis

Robert D. Willis, age 64, passed away on February 17, 2016. Born in San Jose and raised in Stockton, he was the oldest of six children. At the age of 17, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army and was sent to Vietnam. He was a member of the 17th Air Cavalry Squadron, 101st Airborne Division, and served as a Huey Aircraft Crew Chief and Door Gunner. He was awarded a National Defense Service Metal, a Vietnam Service Medal, an Aircraft Crewman Badge, an Air Medal with “V” Device, 1 O/S Bars, a Bronze Star Medal, and an Expert Rifle M-16 status. Bob worked as a firefighter in Yosemite, in inventory and shipping at Sharpe Army Depot and as manager for Chief Auto Parts. He was a past Commander, member of the Honor Guard and member of the American Legion Karl Ross Post #16. He was also member of the Central Valley Vietnam Veterans. Bob enjoyed keeping current on politics, reading history, traveling, and spending time at Karl Ross Post #16. He is survived by his wife, Sharman and canine buddy Roquefort, son Willie (Joy), daughter Shana (Jason), grandchildren Jillian and Willie, father George, brothers John (Lisa), Raymond (Teresa), Marty (Renee), Harold (Sandy), sister Mary (Jeff), numerous nephews and nieces and many brothers and sisters of Karl Ross Post #16. He was preceded in death by his wife Cheryl and mother Barbara. Bob was a fun loving, caring, devoted, generous and loyal man, who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A service will be held at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Rd, in Dixon, on March 25 at 1 pm followed by aCelebration of Life at 3 pm at the American Legion Karl Ross Post #16, 2020 Plymouth Rd., Stockton. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Karl Ross Post #16.

Robert Morton Moreland

Robert Morton Moreland, 84, of Lodi, passed away February 11, 2016. Born March 3, 1931 in Hatfield, Arkansas to Elizabeth and Harold Moreland, Bob honorably served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 5 years, part of that service was during the Korean Conflict. He began farming with his son, Robert, growing a variety of crops, and operating the Red Pepper fruit stand. Later, he had a tomato stand on Guild Ave and sold his crops at the farmer’s market, and he was affectionately known as “Tomato Bob”. Bob loved the sandy soil of the San Joaquin Valley, and especially loved his tractor. He enjoyed giving his grandchildren rides on his tractor, and was very proud of his family, who lovingly called him "Bucko."

Bob had a positive attitude toward people, and was a kind, generous man. He also loved fishing, hunting, and telling his fish stories.

Bob will be missed by his loving, devoted wife of 64 years, Lenore Moreland, and their children, Janice M. Knudson-Said (Isam), Catherine A. Woods (David), and Robert M. Moreland (Sandy). He also leaves behind his 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Bob is preceded in death by his parents and brother, James Moreland.

VISITATION

Visitation will be held from 2-8pm, with a Vigil service at 7pm on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home, 831 Industrial Way, Lodi, California.

SERVICES

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Friday, February 19, 2016 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 215 W. Walnut St, Lodi, California.

INTERMENT

Interment with military honors will follow at Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Shrine, 512 W. Saratoga St, Baltimore, MD 21201.

Harvey Berndt

Harvey Otto Berndt ObituaryHarvey Berndt peacefully went to be with his heavenly father on Wednesday, February 10, 2016. He will be missed by many, especially his family: wife, Ruth Violet (Weigum); daughter and son-in law, Mike and Debby (Berndt) Walker; son, John Berndt; and grandchildren Steven Walker, Jenna Berndt, Jesse Berndt, and Brianna Berndt; brother, Bob Berndt; and several cousins including his very special cousin, Vern Weigum. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Melitta (Frank) Berndt and sister, Viola (Berndt) Strobel.
Harvey was born in Herried, South Dakota on July 14, 1927. His family moved to Lodi in 1936. Harvey enlisted in the Merchant Marines wile still attending Lodi High; returning to graduate at the conclusion of WWII. Harvey was married on his 23rd birthday to his loving wife, Ruthie. They were married over 65 years.

Harvey was a grape grower in the Victor area for over 65 years. He made daily trips to oversee his vineyards until June 2015. Harvey was a charter member of Temple Baptist Church and served on the board of directors for both Youth for Christ and the California Freestone Peach Board.

Harvey always enjoyed fun times with family. He especially liked vacationing in Santa Cruz and Lake Tahoe. He loved water skiing, snow skiing and various travel adventures. Some of his favorite trips included fishing in Alaska and trips to Hawaii and Branson, MO to enjoy concerts. Harvey's favorite pastime was playing ball with his golden retriever Jennie.

Our family is most grateful for the very loving care Harvey received from the staff members while residing at Vienna Rehab Center in Lodi since last June.

SERVICES

Friends and family are invited to attend Harvey's graveside service on Saturday, February, 20 at 10am, at Cherokee Memorial Park, Hwy 99 at Harney Lane, Lodi,CA 95240. A Celebration of Life and reception will follow beginning at 11am, on February 20, at the Temple Baptist Church, 801 S. Lower Sacramento Road, Lodi. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Salvation Army or to Lodi House.

Carroll Keith Hill

Carroll Keith Hill, 1940-2016 Carroll Keith Hill of Stockton, passed away February 9, 2016. Born in Oklahoma on October 24, 1940, Keith went to work at age 17 for Tillie Lewis Foods and was employed there for 38 years then going to work for San Binto Foods in Hollister for 20 years. Keith will be missed by his devoted wife of 46 years, Shirley Hill. Also survived by his children Debbie Lafever, Teresa Simpson, Jimmy Hill, Carla Lynn Dix, Pam Sutherland and Rick Hill. He also leaves behind 16 grandchildren, Steven, Duane, Cody, Robert, Kelley, Lil Jim, Tara, Jimmy Ray, Danny, Alana Marissa, Stacy, Marie, Mark Jr., Tiffani, Richale and 20 great grandchildren. Keith was preceded in death by his parents Homer A. Hill and Neva Hill, Brother Lloyd Ivey, children Debbie Hill and Pamela Sutherland.

Connie CopulosIMG_2638.JPG Early February 7th, 2016, our beloved Wife, Mom and Gram passed away in her home of 43 years in rural Lodi. She was surrounded and held by her family as she slipped from us at the age of 77. Connie was born in Utah in 1938 to Afton and Willard Dillon, followed by two sisters, Vickey and Loma. She grew up mostly in Long Beach, California where she met her husband of 57 years, C.M. “Mike” Copulos. They had three children, Tina, Craig and Chad before moving to Lodi in 1973. It is here in Lodi that Connie created a home filled with love and happiness for her husband, children and grandchildren. Through the years she was known for her sewing, baked goods and jams, enjoyed by all that knew her. Connie was a tremendously devoted, giving person who provided comfort and care for everyone around her. She is remembered by her husband, Mike Copulos; daughter Tina & her husband, Barry Elzig; son, Craig & his wife, Cindy Copulos; son Chad Copulos & his husband, Anthony Belef. Connie is Gram to five grandchildren, Joshua, Sara & Allie Elzig, Justin and Casey Copulos.

A Celebration of her Life will be held at Clements Community Church, 18544 E. Walnut St
 Clements, CA on Saturday March 19th at 11am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of San Joaquin.
