Pearl O’Sullivan

May 28, 1928 - November 18, 2018

Marie was born in Los Angeles to Thomas & Maudella Johnson.  She passed away months after her happy 90th birthday celebration with family & friends. She married Thomas (Sully) W. O’Sullivan, moving several times before settling in Stockton in 1956.  Sully died unexpectedly in 1959, leaving Marie a widow at age 31.  She was a strong, loving, independent woman who raised 9 children, and worked hard to support and guide them into adulthood.  She retired from San Joaquin Co. after 25 yrs.  She was a longtime member of Trinity Presbyterian Church.  She loved family gatherings, mysteries, crosswords, music and old movies.

She is survived by 6 of 9 children - Thomas P. (Lydia), Darrell (Mary), Kelley, Melinda (Chuck), Annette (Scott), and Kerry, and pre-deceased by 3 - Merlyn Anne, Maureen and Timothy.  She is also survived by 2 siblings - Darryl (Jeanette) Johnson and Nalda Grassini, and pre-deceased by her sister Margie.  She left behind 47 grandchildren spanning three generations! 

Visitation:

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 26, 2018 from 10:00am to 8:00pm at the Vineyard Chapel at Cherokee Memorial Park, 14165 N. Beckman Road, Lodi, CA 95240.

Services:

Services for Pearl will be held on Tuesday November 27, 2018 at 10:00am at Trinity Presbyterian Church of Stockton, followed by burial at Cherokee Memorial, Lodi, at noon.  In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to Trinity Presbyterian Church (Stockton) or Western Neuropathy Assoc.

Mitzuko “Mitzi” Hatanaka

4/22/1921 – 11/18/2018

Of Stockton

Mitzuko “Mitzi” Hatanaka passed away peacefully at home on November 18, 2018 in Stockton, California. She was born April 22, 1921 to Genzo and Umeyo Fujimoto on the Mandeville Tract in San Joaquin County. Mitzi grew up in French Camp, and moved to Tracy after returning from an internment camp. She lived in Stockton for the past 30 years. Mitzi was a member of the Buddhist Church of Stockton, and will be remembered as an avid golfer.

Mitzi is survived by her children, Elaine Hatanaka and Bruce Hatanaka, and her sisters, Chiyo Mikawa and Joyce Aya Onizuka, and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in passing are her husband, George Hatanaka, her son, Wayne Hatanaka, her parents, and sisters, Irene Nakano and Edna Yabuno. Janet Christensen

December 13, 1937 - November 14, 2018

Janet Lucille Christensen of Lodi passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 14, 2018, surrounded by family.  Born December 13, 1937 in Red Bluff, California to Richard and Lucille (Wilson) Stone. Janet graduated from Sacramento High School and the following summer met Bernard (Bernie) Christensen.  The two were married in 1956, began to raise their family, and eventually moved to Stockton, settling in Lodi.  Janet was a homemaker who raised five children and proudly volunteered her time over many years at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, where she always enjoyed spending time with her “church office family”, as well as Daughters of Isabella, Legion of Mary, and as a Pink Lady at Lodi Memorial Hospital.

A fan of watching all the big tennis matches and horse races, she was an even bigger fan of her grandchildren and great grandchildren who brought so much joy to her life.   Married to Bernie for 62 years, sadly he passed away less than four weeks before her.  

She is survived by children: Deb Parkins of Chino, Jim Christensen (Laura) of Sacramento, Michael Christensen (Deborah Cook) of Morada, Sue Christensen of San Francisco, and Lisa Thalken (Tim) of Lodi.  Grandchildren: Stefani Luna (Jimmy) of Claremont, Natalie Gonzaga (Hector) of Chino, Tyler Thalken of San Jose, Kelsey Thalken of Los Angeles, and Jacob Turner of West Point, NY.   Great grandchildren: Talia, Tayler, Travis and Troy Luna, Madison and William Gonzaga. Sister Marsha Castelli of Utah, brother Fred Stone of Shingle Springs.  Preceded in death by her parents and sister Sheila Ellenberger.  Following her in death, Janet’s dear sister Darlyne Kircher who passed away just four days later.  

Services:

A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, December 17, 2018 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Lodi, at 10:00 a.m. with a reception to follow in St. Anne’s Hall.  

An inurnment will take place on Monday, December 17th, 2018, at 2:30pm in Cherokee Memorial Park, located off of Highway 99 at Harney Lane, Lodi CA, 95240.

Edna Francis

 

April 13th, 1913 - November 13th, 2018

Edna Francis, a German girl, born in Lodi, California, April 13, 1913, “Went to Glory” Tuesday, November 13, 2018. She is survived by her son, Rev. Richard (and Pat) Francis (pastor of Lodi Christian Life), and her daughter, Naomi Fair, wife of the late Rev. Delton Fair (pastor of North Calvary in Fresno, California). She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Rev. Jesse Francis, parents, Richard and Lydia (Grenz) Nathan, and her 3 siblings, Irene, Henry, and Dan.

In the “roaring 1920’s”, she attended the new First Pentecostal Church along with grocery store owner Julius Rode (later pastor of Revival Center in Modesto, California) and his nephews, the Altnow brothers, owners of the Lodi Truck Service. She left Lodi and worked for a time in San Francisco in the 1930’s. She commuted to work across the bay by ferry, watching the construction of the Bay Bridge. After relocating to Sacramento, helping to establish a new church (now Calvary Evangelism pastored by her grandson, Rev. Troy Fair), she met and married Rev. Jesse Francis. Together they evangelized and pastored in California, Oklahoma, and Arizona. From late 1963 to 1973 they served as pastor of her home church in Lodi (now renamed Lodi Christian Life). In the fall of 1981 she returned to Lodi to serve with her husband assisting their son, Rev. Richard Francis (now pastor since 1973), in the church of her childhood.

She was respected, revered, and loved by many until the day of her passing and will be missed.

There will be a visitation on Monday, November 19th, 2018, from 2:00pm to 8:00pm at the Vineyard Chapel in Cherokee Memorial Park, located at 14165 N. Beckman Road, Lodi CA, 95240.

Services
A service will be held on the following day on Tuesday, November 20th, 2018, at 1:00pm and will take place at the Christian Life Center located at 9023 West Ln, Stockton CA, 95210.

The committal to follow will be at Lodi Memorial Cemetery, located at 5750 E Pine St, Lodi, CA 95240.
