Leonard Dofflemyer

September 17, 1934 - January 20, 2019

Leonard Howard “Mannie” Dofflemyer passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2019.  Leonard was born in Stockton, California on September 17, 1934 to Louis Earl Dofflemyer and Mary Dofflemyer.  Leonard grew up in Stockton, CA and attended Stockton schools.  He attended Stockton College, now Delta College, then the University of the Pacific where he earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in History.

With the dream of becoming a teacher since a very young age, Leonard went on to teach at Manteca High School and Lincoln High School where he taught US History, was a counselor for a short time, and was Social Science Department Chair.  He worked at Lincoln High School for well over 30 years before retiring in 1999.  During his years at Lincoln High School, he taught summer school every summer except one.  After “retiring”, Leonard taught at St. Mary’s High School, Delta College, and then Humphrey’s University where he worked until he passed away.  His teaching career spanned for almost 60 years.

Besides teaching and talking about History, Leonard enjoyed skiing in his younger years, doing work in the yard, spending summers in Santa Cruz with his family, and spending afternoons at Oak Park Ice Arena watching his two daughters ice skate, then later watching his grandson play hockey.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Hazel Dofflemyer, his two daughters, Tara Clary and Karen Vallery, his two grandchildren, Andrew Clary and Emma Vallery, and his younger brother, Bill Dofflemyer.  Leonard will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him, but will be forever in our hearts.
