February 12, 1931 - October 28, 2020

Barbara Jean Ott Schreiber was born to Clarence E. Ott and Anna L. Trower Ott on February 12th , 1931 in Concordia Kansas. Her Sister Mildred Ann was born May 30 th , 1933. Barbara and her Sister were raised on the Family Farm.

Barbara attended a rural school, she graduated from Concordia H.S., she attended and graduated from the University of Ottawa Kansas with a BA in Education. She then went on to attend and graduate from Columbia MO. Receiving a master’s in social work. She taught school in Kansas for 4 years. She married and had two Sons, Douglas and Steven while living in Ottawa KS.

Barbara and her two young Sons along with her Aunt Grace Ott moved to Stockton Ca. in 1964. She accepted a position with the State Hospital in the Department of Health and Welfare. She retired from the State Hospital in 1989.

While living in California Barbara met and married Vernon A. Schreiber Jr. on August 24th , 1968. They resided in Stockton until they hit the road in their RV in 1993, traveling the United States from top to bottom, and West Coast to East Coast as well as Mexico, Canada, and Alaska. They had many adventures with their RV group called The Mexican Connection. Barbara and Vern loved the Lord and took many mission trips to Mexico, building housing, taking clothing and bicycles for under privilege children, and sharing the Good Lords message.

On one of their trips thru Deming, New Mexico they fell in love with a 5-acre parcel that they literally built into a very comfortable Hacienda and even install slabs and RV hook ups for their friends to enjoy while visiting them. Barbara and Vern started and a non-profit in Deming NM and proudly named it ‘Deming Helping Hands’ where Barbara was acting CEO for many years. This non-profit is still in operation today and assisted thousands of low-income families with household items, clothing, and food.

Barbara was a member of the Baptist Church of Concordia KS for 17 years before moving to Stockton Ca. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Stockton, and Quail Lakes where she was a member in the choir at both churches. She and Vern made wonderful friends while living in Stockton and most recently was a member of the Methodist Church of Demining NM.

Barbara and Vernon enjoyed an “Old Solders Trip” to the South Pacific where Vern served in the United States Army before they hung up their traveling.

Barbara is proceeded in death by her Parents, her Aunts, Sister, an Infant Granddaughter, and her Husband Vernon Jr. Barbara is survived by her 2 sons, Douglas Welborn (Nisha) and Steven Welborn (Cindy). She is survived by 7 Grandchildren, 17 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Grandchild and cousins too numerous to mention.

Ronald Webberson

November 30, 1951 - October 27, 2020

Lodi, California -

On Tuesday, October 27, 2020, Ron Webberson, loving husband of Jennifer, passed away at age 68. Ron was born on November 30, 1951 to Merle and Ruth Webberson. He loved creating stained glass art and taking trips to Reno with Jennifer, as well as hanging out with his friends. Ron had a great outlook on life even after the cancer diagnosis. Ron will be missed deeply by all his family and friends.

Ron was preceded in death by parents, Merle and Ruth. He is survived by his wife Jennifer, brothers Robert (Madeline) and Richard (Barbara), nephew Michael (Jovahana), nieces Carolyn and Alison (Jeremy), step-father-in-law Bill, brother-in-law Jeff (Karen) and several great nieces and nephews.

 A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Isaac Friend Sr.

 

December 18, 1964 - October 26, 2020

Isaac Henry Friend Sr. passed peacefully and surrounded by his children, Monday October 26th at 11:03 pm. Isaac was a family man, a people person, and he had a great impact on all that he made contact with. He has touched numerous lives and accepted many as his own children. We will all miss him greatly and have a multitude of fond memories with him, today we send him off to be with his best friend, and we should always remember that this is not goodbye, just see you later. His is Survived by his children Monique Friend, Isaac Friend Jr (Rachiel Freeman) And Leeann Friend-Elias (Paul Elias), His Grandchildren Isaac Friend, Bailey Elias, Anthony Grimmett, and Styron Grimmett Jr., His mother Verdell Cowings, His uncle Owen Jackson, His Sister Barbara Friend (Willie Stewart) His Brothers Jerome Friend (Dontae Jordan), Kevin Friend (Michelle Friend) and Alvin Friend. Also a ton of nieces, nephews, Cousins, and others who he considered his own. He is proceeded in death By his Brother Leander Friend Jr. , His father Leander Friend Sr., His Aunt Lilly Scott and a plethora of family up Above.

Jacqueline Gaffney

May 24, 1936 - October 24, 2020

Jacqueline Gaffney passed away peacefully at home in the comfort of family on Oct. 24, 2020 at the age of 84.

A lifelong resident of Stockton, Jacqueline (Jackie) Jean Semper was born on May 24, 1936 in Fresno, California. Her parents were living in Stockton at the time, but her Mother wanted to be in Fresno when Jackie was born so that there would be plenty of family available to help care for her.

Jackie attended: Stockton High School and Stockton College from which she graduated in 1954. She was a Bluebird and a Campfire Girl. Her mother Bernice was the leader for both troops. Jackie took piano lessons, ballet and tap classes. She was also a Cub Scout leader along with Mrs. Pike. They took the Scouts on field trips and worked on activities centered around earning merit badges. Jackie was also a longtime member of Baby Bunting, a group who raised funds for Children's Home Society of CA.

Jackie and her Sisters worked in their Gr-Grandfather's (A.J Arnaudon) store in Mendota, CA during summer vacations from school. After graduating from Highschool Jackie went to work for Pacific Bell as an operator. That was during the days of the big, manual switchboards. It was possible to listen in on conversations at that time as Party Lines were common.

Jackie's switch board experience helped play a big role in her next job. She worked as a temp for Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) for 3 or 4 summers to help cover for employees who were out on vacation.

In 1965, once her youngest was enrolled in kindergarten, she went back to PG&E working the switchboard as a relief employee. That eventually led to a full time position at the switchboard for a few years before moving through various other departments over the course of some 20+ years.  Many years were spent working in the personnel department.

Through the years Jackie played tennis & golf. She loved the ocean, tide-pooling and lighthouses. Her Grand-dog Kona, a Basque Shepherd, was an avid surfer and Jackie was her biggest supporter. She attended many Surf Dog fund-raising events in Del Mar for the Helen Woodward Animal Center, decked out in K9Kahunas gear, cheering for Kona from the beach. Jackie enjoyed spending time at Bodega Bay with John at their beautiful second home on the 10th green at The Links at Bodega Harbour Golf Course. She also loved spending time with her Mom, Sisters, Niece and daughter shopping in Aptos, Capitola, Carmel and Monterey. John and Jackie held season tickets for the Oakland A’s for several years. She had an A’s baseball cap full of collectable pins that weighed almost as much as her! She and her daughter (Deb) took at least one vacation together each year. They traveled to Northern Michigan, Door Co., WI, Banff & Lake Louise in Alberta, Canada, the Basque region of France & Spain and Burlington, Vermont among various other places. Greg & his wife, Teri, joined them on trips to Boise, ID, Port Townsend, WA & Vancouver Island, B.C., Canada. Jackie was also an avid reader who would consume a couple of books a week.

Jackie is survived by her spouse of 40 years, John Gaffney of Stockton; sisters Donna (Robert) Hoffman of Lodi & Janet (Robert) Kavanaugh of Stockton; her son Greg (Teri) Spoonhour of Lodi, daughter Deb Spoonhour of Escondido, stepson John (Marie) Gaffney of Modesto, grandson Matthew (Monica) Spoonhour of Concord, granddaughter Erin Spoonhour of Stockton; four step-grandchildren; great-grandson Charlie and great-granddaughter Ruby Spoonhour both of Concord and nine step-great-grandchildren.

Predeceased by parents Lawrence and Bernice Semper; husband Charles Robert Spoonhour and niece Kimberly Hoffman Crespi.

The family wishes to express special thanks to Healthcare Aide Luz Geeslin for her loving and exceptional care of Jackie.

A private service will be held at Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi.

Jerry Vogel

October 16, 1986 - October 24, 2020

Jerry Vogel was the most generous, fun-loving, gentle soul this world will have ever known. No words could ever truly express just how severely we will all miss him. Those of us who were lucky enough to have known Jerry can do him honor by remembering the things that made Jerry who he was.

Jerry was definitely a people person, who loved being surrounded by his many many friends and loved ones whether it be just hanging out watching TV and playing video games or if it was going on some sort of adventure and trying out something new. His love of anything sports was endless! All of us know if we tried to say anything about football, basketball, or baseball to him we'd better be on top of our game or else Jerry would shut us down with his vast knowledge on any of those subjects. Especially if it had to do with the Raiders, Lakers, or the A's. It was awesome and sometimes annoying, haha! Jerry also loved the outdoors. Going camping? He'd ask, “when and where?”. Want to BBQ? Jerry would be there ready to share some knew recipe to try or ready to cook his favorites for everyone to enjoy and he loved it!

 But Jerry also had a serious/sensitive side that was undeniably what made Jerry so special. Rarely do you find such a genuinely selfless sensitivity in a person. He was always there if you needed him and willing to do anything to help out. That's just who he was, no questions asked.

Jerry leaves behind his loving mother and father, two sisters, and best bud and dog, Buster. We ask that you please join us in remembering Jerry .

James Rohner

James (Jim/Jimmy) Ross Rohner passed away at home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Jim was born on February 21, 1952 to Billy and Betsey Rohner. A Stockton native, Jim attended local schools, graduating from Franklin High in 1970 where he excelled at sports. He was a very competitive athlete even at a young age. Even when he was 10 years old, he was already pitching against 13 year old.

In 1973, Jim married Robbie (Roberta Lancaster) and they had 3 sons, Aaron (Mindy) of Wilton, California. Ryan (Kandi) of Kaneohe, Hawaii, and Ethan (Elizabeth) of Elk Grove California. Jim’s greatest joy was having 6 grandsons. They are Hunter, Gunnar and Walker of Wilton, J.D (James Dennis) of Kaneohe and Thomas and Oliver of Elk Grove. These boys have brought him much joy over the past 12 years. He is also survived by his brothers Dick (Carol) of Buckley, Washington, Bob (Jill) of Sacramento, California, and sister Carol of Hillsboro, Oregon. He was a very special nephew to Carl Ross of Ducor, California, Alberta Thompson (Jim) of Modesto, California, and Lois Sbragia of Stockton. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by many other relatives and friends.

Jim was the owner of L&M Sharpening INC. He was and avid hunter and fisherman, but his greatest passion was golf. He was able to fulfill a bucket list wish by playing a round of golf at Pebble Beach with his Sunday golf group and again in June with his then 11-year-old grandson. Which turned out to be his final round of golf. Jim and Robbie traveled to many places. Paris, France was one of their favorite locations. Riding camels in Dubai was among their most memorable experiences. They also enjoyed hosting family functions especially pumpkin parties and an annual family crab feed. Robbie would like to thank her wonderful family and friends for their support during this journey with him.

Robert David Sharp

December 5, 1939 - October 22, 2020

Robert David Sharp, 80, of Stockton passed away October 22, 2020. Born in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Oscar and Ollie Sharp, Robert attended Franklin High School and later, Delta College. Robert served with the California Highway Patrol for 31 years, retiring as a Sergeant. He enjoyed golf, fishing, and especially being with his family, including his loving wife of 60 years, Diane.

Robert will be missed by his children, Kimberly (Jason) Poirier, Matthew (Lisa) Sharp, and Patrick Sharp. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Alex Poirier, Robert Sharp, Sarah Costa, and great grandchild Matthew Alexander Sharp. His beloved wife, Diane Sharp, parents, and sister, Virginia Hickman precede him in passing.

Elaine Kortzeborn

Elaine Kortzeborn died peacefully in Stockton, California, at 92 years of age. Near the end, as she was experiencing dementia, she took comfort in “seeing” her parents, Lois and PF Domeny, and her husband, Jack Kortzeborn.

Born in Gillette, Wyoming in 1928, Elaine moved, with her family, to Longmont, Colorado and then to Oakland, California. She graduated from Golden Gate Academy in Berkeley, California and attended Pacific Union College in Angwin, California and La Sierra College in La Sierra, California.

She met her husband, Jack (a medical student at the time), on a blind date that foreshadowed their life to come when, after having worked a double hospital shift, he fell asleep during dinner. She became accustomed to taking up the slack whenever he dozed off during parties, meetings, meals, and events.

After her family moved to Stockton, California in 1962, Elaine became a fixture in her church and other social circles, making and maintaining decades-long connections that exist to this day. She was a homemaker for her husband and children and an active volunteer in the community. She served as one of the first female members of her church board and her daughters’ school’s board, taking a particular interest in education. In her last volunteer role, when she was in her 80s, she tutored primary school children in math.

Elaine was able to remain proudly independent in her own home until she was 90 years of age, even returning there after cancer treatment and surgery at age 86 and surgery/rehab for a hip fracture at age 88. The second hip fracture, at age 90, necessitated a move to assisted living and then her declining mental status prompted a further move into memory care, where she spent the last year of her life. COVID-19 robbed her family of six months of time with her, as her facility, in order to protect its residents, closed its doors to all but essential workers when the pandemic took hold in March. Only her entry into hospice care provided her loved ones with a final opportunity to spend time with her during the last three weeks of her life.

During the time that Elaine was isolated from her family, the care and support provided by the essential workers in her facility gave great comfort to her and also to those who worried about her and loved her from a distance. The debt of gratitude we all owe to front-line workers, especially those caring for our elders in the face of this terrible pandemic and sometimes at great personal cost, is one that we will never be able to repay.

Elaine is survived by her sister, Dorothy Davis, and her daughters, Karen Irwin (m. James Irwin) and Catherine Kortzeborn. It’s an impossible task to completely characterize and identify her family of affinity, which encompasses extended family on both sides (brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews) as well as a large “adopted” contingent (sons and daughters-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandsons), her church family, her daughters’ friends, and many others she picked up along the way. People naturally gravitated to her big smile and big heart and her and Jack’s home was open to all.

Her loss is also greatly felt by her beloved cat, Maisie, who was her constant companion and stout-hearted guard up to the moment of her death.

Elaine’s lasting legacy will be in the people of all ages whose lives she touched and who will remember her humor, kindness, opinions, and smile long after she is gone.

In lieu of flowers, her family would welcome donations to two philanthropic organizations that meant a great deal to her, the Carter Center (www.cartercenter.org) and the ASPCA (www.aspca.org).
