Alta Brown

October 15, 1940 - December 14, 2023

Alta Jean Brown, a longtime resident of Stockton, California, was born on October 16, 1940, in Briartown, Oklahoma.  Her family moved to California when she was 13 years old.  Alta passed away at the age of 83 on December 14, 2023, after a battle with lung and brain cancer.  Alta is survived by her loving husband of over 60 years, Larry Hermon Brown, her daughter, Lana Shearer, grandchildren, Nicholas and Alexander Shearer, her son, Curtis Watson-Brown and his spouse, Randy Watson-Brown, as well as her older brother, Raymond “Doc” Love.  She was preceded in death by three older brothers and her parents, Captoria and Emmit “Mack” Love.

Alta worked for the Stockton Unified School District for 30 years as a clerk-typist in the office of Elmwood Elementary School.  She truly enjoyed her career and was a "mother to all" who met her.  She was a consistent source of comfort and loving support to the children (and adults) who needed her.  She retired from her career to enjoy spending more time with her two grandchildren, whom she adored so very much. Although we are heartbroken by the loss, our lives are enriched with the memory of all the love and laughter that we shared.

They were blessed with three beautiful children: daughter, Jody Lynn, and two sons, John Edward & Lee Allen.

In 1970 the family relocated to Lodi, CA, where Ed continued his career as a police officer. Carol was first a devoted mother. She began her career at Lodi Community Hospital and finished at Arbor Convalescent, where she became Dietary Supervisor, from 1990 until 2009.

Joanne Minatre

Our Dedication to Joanne Garrison Minatre
November 16, 1945 - December 14, 2023

Joni dedicated 38 years of her life to the education of children, something essential for their future and for society in general. She seemed to love entering the classroom to engage with her pupils. Even after formally retiring from full time teaching, she often was recalled to act as a substitute teacher. Believe me, she really enjoyed getting those phone calls that took her back to a job she did well in and enjoyed.

When Joni married Elvin Minatre, her first and only marriage, she did her best to make the marriage work. Toward the end of Elvin’s life, she dedicated herself to his full care, and it was a very challenging ordeal, even when facing serious medical problems of her own.

We will always remember Joni with love because she was part of the wonderful extended family that we shared.

Rest in peace, dear sister, we will always have you on our minds and pray for you too. Perhaps one day we’ll meet again.

Michael Hamilton

March 28, 1948 - December 10, 2023

After a long illness and hard, brave fight, Michael (Mike) Wayne Hamilton passed peacefully at St. Joesph’s Hospital on the evening of December 10, 2023.

Mike was born to Billie and Leita Hamilton on March 28, 1948 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He is survived by his cherished wife of 42- years Mary Louise; brothers William and Jonathan; sister Judith; son Michael Jr.; and step-children Dee Hand (Art), Nancy Cox (Mark) and Al Francis. He is preceded in death by brother David and sister Kathy. “Papa” was also a most treasured grandfather of 11, great grandfather of 7 and “Daddy” to his beloved Yorkie, Bojangles.

Mike spent his 40-year career as a stationary engineer, first managing and maintaining complicated boiler systems ship-side in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. Later he did the same for Campbell’s Soup in Modesto, then for San Joaquin County at the San Joaquin County General Hospital. Mike retired in 2011 and took the next 12 years to enjoy quality time with his wife, family and friends.

Mike was a proud veteran of the Vietnam conflict and saw himself as a stalwart patriot. The lively debates and strong opinions that Mike regularly shared will be missed by those closest to him.

Mike chose cremation for his final resting. No public service will be held but donations to the Vietnam Veterans of America in his memory would be greatly appreciated.

Rest in peace “C Pappy”.
