Velma Jean Rice was born to Horace and Lillie Gilstrap on August 6, 1935 in Olkmogee Oklahoma. She had 11 siblings; two boys who passed very young. 1 brother and 8 sisters who preceded her in death. Donald Gilstrap, Jean Wilson, Marie Harris, Bonnie Foster, Margaret Lloyd, Ellen Harrison,Judy Slover, and Ethyl McLain.
Velma married Lesley Earl Rice and raised a bunch of kids. Danny rice, Carol Murphy, Vicky Casey, Susan peoples, Leslie Tate(Tuti), Kay Leslie, Lisa Garma, Michael Jones. Danny, Vicky, and Carol preceded Velma in death. After Lesley passed in 1990, Velma raised two more children Travis nichols and Joshua Robertson with the help of her daughters.
Velma had a total of 16 grandchildren; Chris, Gina, Marissa, Nicholas, Josh, Daniel, Matthew, Chris, Joseph, Benjamin, Jennifer, Angie, Jamie,Julie Travis, and Josh. and 13 great grandchildren. Grandmas house was the place to be, playing with the cousins or hanging out with grandma. We always had a glass of sweet tea and a hug to brighten our day.
Velma loved her family very much and getting together was what she wanted to do every holiday. Velma was willing to help out anyone who needed it, she didn’t like anyone hungry.
We all will miss her terribly.

George John Mifsud, 80, of Linden, CA, passed away on July 22, 2024. Born on August 10, 1943, in San Francisco, he was the beloved son of Maltese immigrant parents Angelo Mifsud and Mary Calleja Mifsud.
George's life was marked by his devotion to his family, his faith, and his community. He served in the US Army and was deployed to Vietnam in 1967. On May 31,1969, George married Joan Elizabeth Mansell. They eventually had a son and a daughter and built a loving family over the next 55 years.
George was an entrepreneur who owned and operated George Mifsud Trucking for over 20 years, a business he built from the ground up and loved seeing grow over time. He was a devoted member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and a longstanding member of the Linden Lions Club, where he cherished both the philanthropic work they did and the many friendships he formed over the years.
George's greatest joy in life was his four grandchildren, whom he adored and considered his “greatest achievement”. He also found immense pleasure in meticulous gardening, reading and took pride in his many woodworking projects along with other endeavors that involved building and creating.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Mifsud, their children, Christian and ShaNee Mifsud of Stockton, CA, and Ginelle Mifsud Daugherty of Fresno, CA, and his four grandchildren, Anastasia Mifsud, Rocco Mifsud, Hudson Daugherty, and Finn Daugherty. He is also survived by his five older sisters, Jenny Flood, Nan Mifsud, Lucy Romer, Rita Sinclair, and Maryann Mifsud, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his parents Angelo and Mary Mifsud and two brothers Joseph and Edward Mifsud.
SERVICE
A rosary and funeral mass will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Linden on August 12, 2024, at 10:30 am. Following the service, a reception will be held at the Linden Lions Banquet Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to Hospice of San Joaquin.

Carol Naomi Hadley
August 24, 1939 - July 21, 2024
Carol Naomi Hadley, widow of Gerald L. Hadley, was born on August 24th, 1939, in Manassa, Colorado. She passed away on July 21, 2024, while attending the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin as a California State Delegate. She was 84 years old.
Carol was the daughter of Erastus Trujillo and Flavia Romero and sister to four brothers and three sisters. She grew up in Layton, Utah, where she developed her love for family, faith, community, and performing arts.
Carol lived a life full of love, compassion, and dedication. Her adventurous spirit led her to join the Ogden Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol as a teenager. Later, she proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force where she met her first husband, Bernice Darwin Roberts, and had four children: David Roberts (Karen), Kimberly Johnson (Tyler), Margaret Folsom (Todd), and Anthony “Tony” Roberts (Kele). They later divorced.
Throughout her life, she loved the performing arts. She participated in live theater in high school and college. As a beautiful young woman she sang for the USO, served as the musical director of a multi-branch military bicentennial celebration, and willingly sang for anyone who asked. With her outgoing personality, she was a successful Tupperware manager, a realtor, and a political consultant.
As a woman of great faith, Carol served in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints throughout her life and held many positions. Her great love was serving with her sweetheart in the Pacific Rim Branch where she was affectionately called Mom and Grandma by all. A tremendous blessing came from their service in the Branch when Mom and Jerry welcomed Bao Her and Stephanie Ly (Anthony) into our family.
In addition to her other passions, Carol was deeply involved in Republican politics, holding many local, state, and national offices for the National Federation of Republican Women. Her involvement in Republican politics was a passion she pursued until her passing.
She was heavily involved in her Stockton community where she was honored as Woman of the Year and wrote a column for the Latino Times, and a member of the Lions Club. Beyond the numerous community organizations, she had a smile and a hug for everyone, considering strangers as family she had not yet met. The Hadley home was open to all who touched her life.
She was married to her beloved husband, Jerry Hadley, for thirty-four years. She is survived by her six children and her three stepdaughters: Diana Hadley, Sue Bottenfield (Kevin), and Patricia Renas (John). Carol had 21 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Her love for her family was immeasurable, and she took immense pride in each of her children’s accomplishments and lives.
Carol will be dearly missed by all who know her, but her legacy of love and kindness to all will live on in our hearts forever.
A viewing for Carol Hadley will be held on August 10, 2024 at 9:30 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. both to be held at the LDS Brookside Chapel, 800 Brookside Rd, Stockton, California. The service will be followed by interment at Cherokee Memorial Park 14165 Beckman Road Lodi, California. A lunch will follow at the Brookside LDS Chapel.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mark Lucas, age 72, on July 20th, 2024. Born on July 1, 1952, in Tracy, CA, Mark lived a rich and fulfilling life in Stockton, raising his family and leaving a lasting impact on everyone he met.
Mark attended Lincoln High School and later studied at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He had an illustrious career in operations and management, dedicating 40 years to his work worldwide. His professional accomplishments were matched by his remarkable personal traits.
Mark was a husband, father, grandfather and friend with a captivating personality. Funny, charismatic, intelligent, and handy, he was the epitome of wit and humor. Known for his hilarious dad jokes, Mark always had a knack for making everyone around him laugh.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 46 years, Nancy Lucas; his daughter, Jennifer Boras; son-in-law, Michael; and two cherished granddaughters, Teagan and Riley. Mark was an avid San Francisco Giants fan, enjoyed playing bocce ball, and loved cracking a good joke. Mark’s whole life was dedicated to his family, and he always showed up for those he loved, bringing joy and humor into every moment.
Mark Lucas will be forever remembered for his ability to bring joy, his unwavering commitment to loved ones, and his infectious sense of humor. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Robert Lee Borsdorf Jr.
October 28, 1941 - July 16, 2024
Robert Lee Borsdorf Jr., known to all as “Bob,” passed away peacefully on July 16, 2024, with family by his side.
Bob was born in Chicago, Illinois, on October 28, 1941, to Robert L. Borsdorf Sr. and Gertrude E. Borsdorf. He was the eldest of their four children, survived by his brothers John Borsdorf (Carol) and Thomas Borsdorf (Sue Lockington). He was preceded in death by his father Robert, mother Gertrude, brother James Borsdorf, and sister-in-law Nancy Borsdorf.
Bob was raised in Carmichael, CA, graduating from El Camino High School, Class of 1960, and attended California State University, Sacramento. In 1972, Bob became a resident of Stockton, CA, where he resided for 52 years.
On December 22, 1979, Bob married his beloved wife, Genevieve “Jenny.” Together, they raised a blended family of five children: his son Robert L. Borsdorf III (Olga), daughter Dawn Walker (Gary), stepson Steven Herrera, and stepdaughters Mercy Walker (Brian) and Grace Smith (Michael). Their union blessed them with eight grandchildren, Samantha Sangalang Colburn, Katherine Herrera, Robert L. Borsdorf IV, Kristen Walker, Lauren Walker, Natalie Borsdorf, Jessica Walker, and Alex Walker, as well as three great-grandchildren: Joel Arellano, Madalyn Colburn, and Clover Kolberg.
Bob was dedicated to work throughout his life, retiring only in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He pursued a building and facilities management career and owned his own custodial business, taking great pride in his profession and work relationships.
Outside of work, Bob and Jenny enjoyed traveling and volunteering together, and attending San Francisco Giants games and rock concerts. His favorite pastimes also included collecting model trains, visiting train stations, watching historical documentaries, listening to music, and decorating for his family at Christmas.
Bob was known for his quick wit and ability to bring laughter into any moment. His warm smile and humor will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and loving him.

Anna Juanita Thomson, 69, passed away peacefully in her home on July 16th 2024 in Lodi, California. Anna was born on January 31st, 1955 in Madera, California. She was adopted and raised by Ken and Betty Thomson. After moving from Madera to Mokelumne Hill, California she attended San Andreas High School and went on to work part time but mostly a stay at home mom and housewife. Anna is survived by husband of 29 , Ron Silack, her children Tamie Roberts, Donnie Grimes, John Parker, Robbie Heinitz, Robby Castellon, Jasmine Andrade, and acquired by marriage daughter Krystal Duarte; her grandchildren Jason Fitch, Hope Barton, Kylie Pugh, Makendrea Grimes, Peyton Grimes, Karsyn Grimes, Patrick Parker, Jeric Parker, Talisa Heinitz, Preston Heinitz, Parker Castellon, Regina Castellon, and Ciara Andrade, Phineas Duarte, and Josie Duarte; her 8 great grandchildren, 4 brothers, and 3 sisters. Preceded in death by her parents Ken and Betty, brother Ernie, and son Jason. A memorial service will be held on July 27th, 2024 at 2:00pm in Lodi at the Faith Community Church 18621 N Hwy 99, Acampo, Ca. 95220. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Anna's life. In lieu of flowers the family requested that donation be made to Anna’s favorite charity, City of Lodi Animal Services. Anna will be deeply missed by all that knew her. Her love and kindness will live on in our hearts forever.
