April 13, 1929 - September 8, 2019
Colonel Gerald K. Evans Jr., USAF (Retired) April 13,1929 - Sept. 8, 2019 On September 8th, Gerald passed away peacefully with his family by his side. Gerald grew up in Stockton, attended Saint Mary's College, until enlisting in the Air Force in August of 1949. He was a bomber pilot, serving over 26 years in the United States Air Force in various assignments, but flying was his joy. He met the love of his life, Betty whom he married in March of 1959, who proceeded him in death in 1999. Gerald is survived by his five children, Diane Scissons, Karen Mata, Michael (Rachelle)Evans, Sandra (Steve) Rivera and Richard Evans as well as grandchildren Brian Evans, Jeffrey Evans, Kelly Scissons, Amanda Evans. Great grandchildren Tallulah, Sawyer and Cambria Grace Evans. (Proceeding him in death, grandsons Matthew Hooten and Alex Scissons.) Gerald retired from the USAF in 1975, and settled his family in Stockton. He was the Manager of the Northern California Grain Exchange until he retired in 1992. He volunteered over 10,000 hours in Stockton Police Department's V.I.P.S. program, and then volunteered until this month, logging in over 20,000 hours in the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department's S.T.A.R.S. Program. He loved talking about his stories of being a pilot, and was extremely intelligent. He liked to joke around, loved his cigars, Doris Day, John Wayne and Murder She Wrote. He loved to show off his memorabilia, and reminded us all he missed the good old days and fishing with his buddies. He believed in patriotism, family, the military and being a respectable man. He had a gruff exterior, but a heart of gold. He missed our Mother everyday of the 20 years he was without her. He lived a full life, and the world was a better place because of him. He was loved, is loved, and will be missed. He flew into the final blue yonder where our Mother, Matthew, and Alex were all waiting for him.

Dolores J. (Sullivan) vonBerg passed away on September 7, 2019 at the age of 89. Dolores was born in Sonora, CA on February 22, 1930 to Timothy Sullivan and Hilda Bergstrom Sullivan. Both families are recognized by the Tuolumne City Historical Museum as pioneer settlers. Dolores lived for many years in Tuolumne City, CA, graduating from Summerville High in 1948. Dolores was married to Victor vonBerg from 1949 until his passing in 2012 and has lived in Lodi from 1954 to the present.
Dolores is survived by her son Steve (Carol) and daughter Lenore Nies (Larry). Dolores has a granddaughter Tami Somera (Ed) and two grandsons, Brett Von Berg (Nicole) and Eric Von Berg (Elishia). She has four great-grandchildren, Jacob Somera, Sarah and Paige vonBerg, and Ryker vonBerg. Dolores is also survived by her sister Melody Sullivan Burns, the Burns family, and members of the Nies family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and great-granddaughter Gabrielle Somera.
After graduating high school, Dolores worked in the Tuolumne County Recorders Office for several years. With the birth of her children, she became a stay-at-home mom, remaining active as a room mother and PTA officer at Lincoln School in Lodi. In 1970 she attended Humphrey’s Business School, and after receiving her certificate of completion, she was immediately hired by Lodi Unified as a personnel secretary. She spent over twenty happy years there, making numerous friends along the way. Many teachers credited her for being a positive influence on their careers.
Dolores loved big band music and going to the Riverboat on the Delta. She also enjoyed dancing, even though she was an amputee since early childhood. As a child she spent many months recovering from surgeries in the Shriners Hospital in SF, never letting her disability define her as a person.Dolores and Victor loved animals, especially dogs. They fostered/adopted many dogs for PALS and Animal Friends.
The past nine years Dolores has resided at The Ashley Place/Balance. She loved playing Bingo, doing word searches, listening to the weekly performers, and making arts and crafts until dementia got the best of her. During this time, she never lost her smile or sense of humor and was a friend to all. We’d like to thank her special friends Curtis, Linda, Scotty, and the Ashley caregivers, especially Veronica R., Michelle, and Melissa O. for their excellent care and comfort. Vitas Hospice also provided excellent care in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, PALS, Animal Friends Connection, or Hospice services.

Garrett Wayne Beckley Jr. April 13, 1943 - Sept. 6, 2019 Garrett Wayne Beckley Jr., 76, of Linden, passed away in Lodi on Sept. 6, 2019. Garret was born April 13, 1943 in Tucson, AZ, to Garrett W. Beckley Sr. and Kathryn E. Tuggle, both of whom preceded him in death. In his early years, Garrett was involved in the family ranching operation in Linden and subsequently Linden Motor Coach. He opened his own printing business, Sunset Press and published the Linden Courier and Valley Sentinel. He and his wife opened Country Favors. He served on the Linden School Board and was a member of many other organizations including the Linden Lions Club. Garrett's greatest passion was his love of Christ. If he wasn't working in one of his many endeavors, you could find him at church. He believed in outreach and would often be found handing out food to those in need, participating in outreach ministries or just sharing the gospel with those who may not have heard the message of Christ. Garrett was preceded by his wife Charlene, the love of his life and wife of 50 years. Garrett is survived by his son Mark Beckley (Dellann) of Copperopolis, son Ryan Beckley (Kelly) of Visalia; grandchildren Kaitlin, Hannah, Josiah, Jael, and Naomi and sister Karen L. Carr of Linden. Garrett's final years were spent at Brookdale Kettleman Lane Memory Care. Garrett would often state how he thought of the facility as "home". The Beckley Family is truly grateful for the wonderful care he received at Brookdale.

Our beloved Conrad H.S. Hunziker II, 69, died on September 4, 2019, at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento following a valiant 19-month battle with multiple myeloma. His three children, two of five grandchildren, four sisters, ex-wife, and his fiancé were all with him in the days leading up to his passing.
Born and raised in Lodi, son of Samuel and Ione (Goltz) Hunziker and 1968 graduate of Lodi High, Con earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA. There, he met Dianne Torgerson and they were married for 36 years. Always the competitive athlete, Con was on PLU's crew team, rowing on four-man, single, double, and eight-man crews. His four-man crew won first place in the 1971 Western Sprints and went on to take second in the nation. After a year in the seminary in Minnesota, Con and Dianne moved to the Los Angeles area. Following a stint as a math and science teacher and a home insurance adjuster, Con joined the Los Angeles Police Department's Police Academy in the summer of 1981. He was in the LAPD Police Reserves for 4 years, eventually earning the title "Reserve Officer of the Year."
In 1983, Con, Dianne, and his three children moved to Morada, just outside Stockton, to be closer to his family. He eagerly joined the Lodi Police Department in 1984, where he was on the S.W.A.T. team, a Sergeant for the K-9 and the Police Cadet programs, and a proud member of the Honor Guard. Meanwhile, he continued to compete in numerous marathons, triathlons, and Police & Fire Olympics games, as an individual and representing Lodi Police Department. After he retired in 2000, Con joined the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department. He served 17 years there, notably known as the "Candyman" bailiff in the San Joaquin County Superior Court. His humor and sweet tooth helped him run a friendly courtroom, breaking the stress and tension that often exists in such environs. During his tenure with the Sheriff's department, Con met Mary McInerney and they loved each other dearly for 11 years.
Con is survived by his fiancé Mary; his ex-wife Dianne; his three children and their spouses: Conrad III & Paula (Kulajian) Hunziker, Tritia (Hunziker) & Brian Moneypenny, and Mark & Kristin (Carlson) Hunziker; his five grandchildren: Jules (Hunziker) Johnson, Chad, Owen, Conrad IV, and Noah. Con is also survived by his four sisters: Paula Gray, Judith Renberg, Janet Rowlett, and Meridith Zomalt and their spouses, children, and grandchildren.
SERVICE
A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 13 at 10:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, located at 808 Porter Ave, Stockton CA, 95207, with a reception following. Guests are encouraged to wear colorful, Con-inspired outfits in celebration of the wit he brought to the world. Con will be laid to rest at Cherokee Memorial Cemetery during a private family burial. No additional visitations will be held.
Along with flowers, the family welcomes donations to the American Cancer Society (https://www.cancer.org/) or the National Kidney Foundation (https://www.kidney.org/) in memory of Conrad.

Lodi native and beloved member of the wine grape farming community, Kris Gutierrez, 43, succumbed to a 14 month battle with leukemia at home surrounded by his family and friends.
Kris attended Lodi area schools, St. Anne's and Tokay HS '94. After high school, Kris worked at Ehler's Elevators and later worked as a farm manager for Ripken Vineyards & Winery for nearly 20 years. In 2003, Kris became a founding owner of KG Vineyard Management. Kris met his wife, Jen, in 2003. They later married in 2007 in Santa Cruz. Kris made extensive contributions to the wine and grape industry in leadership roles as President of the Lodi District Grape Growers and as a Commissioner of the Lodi Winegrape Commission. Kris gladly served the broader community as a volunteer firefighter for the Woodbridge and Delta fire districts. Kris was active in the San Joaquin Farm Bureau and the chairman for the Lafayette Farm Center. Also, he was a dedicated supporter of San Joaquin AgFest and Tokay High School's FFA.
Kris is survived by his wife of 12 years, Jen Pinkham Gutierrez, dog Lucky, sister Kelley Gutierrez Holbert, in-laws, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. His parents, Pam and George Gutierrez, both deceased, were long time Lodi residents.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 21st, at the Bare Ranch, 19877 Davis Rd., Lodi. Casual lunch is at 2pm with the Celebration of Life service at 3pm. Dress is strictly farmer casual (no jackets, no ties). Hats are appropriate! Burial will be private.

Stephen ”Steve” Nosse, 55 of Stockton passed away quietly after a long battle with cancer. Born in Bellevue Pennsylvania in 1964, he was the only child to Carl and Dolores Nosse. His family moved to Tallahassee, Florida where he began high school and in 1980 moved to Stockton and graduated from Lincoln High in 1982. Steve attended The University of the Pacific and graduated with honors in 1986. While at UOP, he began his career in graphic arts opening Panache Communications with his friend Jeff Kenney. He quickly became an active member in the business community joining local lead clubs, the Stockton Chamber of Commerce and volunteering for United Way of San Joaquin. His career then moved him to Vanguard Press of Stockton, Business Graphics Group of Pleasanton and to San Francisco to extend his education at the Art Institute. While at the Art Institute, Steve earned a second degree in animation for games and movies. In his years at the Art Institute and all through his life, he developed many new relationships, one in particular that led to his work at Ender’s Fund, a small animation company in the heart of San Francisco. Following his work at Ender’s Fund he and his wife, Alicia, returned to Stockton where he began working at SASS Communications.
Steve had many passions including books, art museums, animated movies, travel, and new restaurants. Over his lifetime he became an avid collector of comics and good friends. From a young age, Steve was enamored with all things Disney. Throughout his life, he visited the Disney parks both here and in Florida over a dozen times.
Steve is survived by his wife Alicia, parents Dolores & Carl, mother in law, Mercedes DeSantiago, sister in law, Andrea Tuitavuki, his niece and nephew, Kylie and Noah Tuitavuki, his uncle and aunt, Robert and Sally Franke, cousins Dana, Kirk and Mark of Florida, his aunt Esther of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and his best friend Layne Imada.
In each place of employment, club, group or casual encounter Steve left an impression on people. He was loved for his quick wit, fun-loving personality, and his artistic talent. He will be greatly missed by all he has known.

Victor H. Marquardt of Galt, CA passed away peacefully at his home on September 1, 2019. He was born in Leola, South Dakota in 1935 and as a young boy settled with his family in Lodi. In 1953 he graduated from Lodi Union High School and began a life-long career with General Mills. Early in his career he was called up to serve in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea and at Fort Ord. After completing his military service, he resumed his career with General Mills while continuing his education. He received his A.A. from Stockton College in 1962 and B.A. from Sacramento State College in 1967. He held a variety of positions with General Mills and retired in 2001.
Vic participated in many local organizations but was particularly active with Kiwanis Club. For many years he and high school buddy Robert Friedberger were regular fixtures at the July 4th Pancake Breakfast. Vic often had a pocket full of raffle tickets he was hawking in support of one group or another. He was also a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church and was instrumental in founding the Mokelumne Federal Credit Union. In his spare time, he enjoyed travel, golf and entertaining family and friends.
Victor was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. He is survived by his wife Anita, sons Brian and Greg, step-daughters Suzanne and Karina, grandson Mitchell, many nieces and nephews, and faithful companions Barkley and Taz.
